Summer Camp

Summer Camp Organizer in Orlando's Dr. Phillips Area, 2.6 Miles From Universal Studios

School is out for the summer, but most Dr. Phillips parents still work. If you’re looking for a summer camp organizer in Orlando, you want structure for your child, not just supervision. Ladybird Academy of Dr Phillips runs Summer My Way Summer Camp for ages 5 to 11. The program includes week-long sessions, field trips, and science, cooking, and social studies days.

Licensed Center, Real Structure

How Summer Camp Organizing Works for Dr. Phillips and Southwest Orlando Families

Our center sits near the theme park and hospitality corridor, where many parents work early, late, or shifting hours. We have served Dr. Phillips families since 2013. Ladybird Academy of Dr Phillips holds Florida Gold Seal Quality Care, plus A.P.P.L.E. and N.E.C.P.A. accreditation.

Ladybird Academy of Dr Phillips runs summer camp inside a child care center licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF). Gold Seal Quality Care is a separate award, and DCF grants it only to centers that already hold a DCF license. So the license is the starting point, and Gold Seal is earned on top of it. If you’re comparing camps, check this first: is the camp run by a licensed center, or is it a short-term program with no license behind it?

Many households in ZIP 32819 have two working parents, and 59% of housing in the same ZIP is owner-occupied. Families who plan to stay for years tend to look closely before they sign. They ask about credentials, named staff, and real curriculum, and we expect those questions. Our school-year classrooms use the Abeka curriculum and Saxon Math.

Work schedules shape summer plans here. Sand Lake Road’s Restaurant Row, Dr. Phillips Boulevard, International Drive, and Universal Orlando employ many parents on early or late shifts. Universal Studios is 2.6 miles from our door, about 13 minutes away, so the drive between work and pickup stays short.

Weather shapes the camp day too. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in Central Florida summers, so we plan camp days around shade, water play, and indoor rooms. A storm moves an activity inside instead of ending it.

Many Dr. Phillips and MetroWest families moved here from the Northeast or Midwest, and many of them have no local referral network yet. Without a neighbor to ask, you need proof you can check yourself. Gold Seal status, dual accreditation, and live camera access give you that proof.

Summer camp also fills the gap between school years. Your child stays in the same building instead of starting over in a new program for June and July.

Two Trips a Week

Summer Camp Field Trips to Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake

Summer My Way Summer Camp includes two field trips per week. Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake is one of our confirmed trip stops. Campers from Dr. Phillips, Williamsburg, and the Turkey Lake area get real time outside the classroom, close to home.

Each week of camp has its own theme. Seeing places in person gives kids something real to talk about back in class.

6:30 AM to 6:30 PM

Kids Summer Camp Hours Built Around Orlando’s Tourism and Hospitality Shifts

Our center is open weekdays from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and we offer flexible scheduling. Those hours fit parents who work at the theme parks, International Drive hotels, Restaurant Row, and nearby corporate offices.

Ask us how kids summer camp days line up with your work shift, so you can plan the week with fewer handoffs.

Meals are part of the day. Our own cook prepares breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack on site, so your child eats fresh, balanced meals and you don’t have to pack a lunch.

For park employees, location makes a difference. Ladybird Academy of Dr Phillips is the closest daycare to Universal Studios Orlando, and that short drive can make early and late shifts easier to manage.

A New Theme Each Week

Week-Long Summer Camp Sessions With Flexible Scheduling for Sand Lake and Bay Hill Families

Week-long summer camp sessions at Ladybird Academy of Dr Phillips each have their own theme. Many Sand Lake and Bay Hill families have summers full of travel, visiting relatives, or changing work weeks. Ask us how our weekly sessions can fit around your family’s plans, including flexible scheduling if you work rotating shifts.

Every week starts with Monday water day, and camp days include enrichment and outdoor play. A steady weekly routine can help kids ease back into school habits when the new school year starts.

Four Specialty Centers

Science Activities in an On-Site Science Lab for Dr. Phillips Campers

Science activities at Ladybird Academy of Dr Phillips take place in our on-site Science Lab. The Science Lab is one of four specialty centers in the building, along with the Art Studio, Library, and Computer Lab.

Campers do simple, hands-on experiments and use sensory play, which means learning through touch, sight, sound, and smell. Along the way, they practice observation: looking closely, noticing changes, and talking about what happened.

Florida gives kids easy science topics they see every day. Heat, rain, plants, and bugs are all around Dr. Phillips and Bay Hill. A child who notices puddles drying in the afternoon sun is already asking a science question.

Summer learning matters because skills can slip during a long break. Science work keeps early math and reasoning active, through counting, comparing, and predicting. For younger campers, that practice supports kindergarten readiness before the new school year begins.

Cooking Activities That Pair With Daily Fresh Meals for Williamsburg and Turkey Lake Kids

Cooking activities give campers a hands-on way to learn about food. They also connect to the meals your child eats here every day.

Age-appropriate cooking tasks can include measuring ingredients, mixing, and naming foods. Our own cook prepares fresh, balanced meals every day, so kids see food made in the same building where they learn about it.

Kids pick up other skills in the kitchen, too. Measuring and counting build early math skills. Following a recipe teaches kids to follow steps in order. Talking about foods helps build healthy habits.

Because cooking happens indoors, it’s a good fit for Central Florida afternoons when thunderstorms move in and outdoor play has to wait.

Getting to Know Home

Social Studies Days That Teach Kids About Dr. Phillips and Greater Orlando

Social studies days help campers learn about the place they live. For families new to Orlando, this is a simple way for your child to get to know your new home.

Social studies topics can include community helpers, maps, local places, and how neighborhoods work. Places they may already know, like Sand Lake Road, Dr. Phillips Boulevard, the Dr. Phillips YMCA, Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake, and the nearby theme parks, make these topics concrete. A map that shows a road they ride on every day means more to a child than a map of a faraway town.

Library time and storytime sessions can support these topics. Hearing stories and talking about them builds early language and listening skills.

Social studies also supports social-emotional learning, which means learning to understand feelings, take turns, and get along with others. Talking about community helpers is a natural way to practice it.

Cool Starts, Shady Play

Monday Water Days and Shaded Playgrounds for Central Florida’s Summer Heat

Monday water days give Summer My Way campers a cool start to each week. Our center also has a dedicated water play area. If you’re worried about the heat, water play is one of the most practical ways to keep kids active outside.

Our playground has shaded equipment and safety surfacing. Shade lets kids enjoy outdoor play and playground activities without long stretches in direct sun.

Soccer and other outdoor activities build gross motor skills, the large movements like running, kicking, and jumping. Team games also teach kids to work together, wait their turn, and handle winning and losing. Orlando’s warm climate keeps outdoor play going all year, so the habits campers build in June and July carry into the school year.

Rainy Days, Real Rooms

Indoor Camp Spaces for Afternoon Thunderstorms and Hurricane Season

Indoor camp spaces at Ladybird Academy of Dr Phillips keep rainy days productive. Our building includes a library, the “Playtown” dramatic play room, and an art room, plus the Science Lab and Computer Lab.

When storms roll in, the daily plan keeps going inside. Campers move to:

  • Creative play centers
  • Ballet and dance
  • Storytime
  • Art projects

You stay connected wherever your child is in the building. Parent updates come through our app, direct teacher messaging, and live camera access. If you have a concern, our front desk responds the same day.

Florida VPK does not cover summer camp at Ladybird Academy of Dr Phillips, because our VPK program runs during the school year only. VPK (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten) is Florida’s free pre-K for eligible 4-year-olds. Summer camp is enrolled separately. Families new to Florida often ask about this, so we’re glad to explain how the two programs fit together.
