Potty Training Support

Potty Training Support in Orlando: Steady Help for Your Toddler at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips

Home and School, One Team

Potty Training Support That Fits Your Workday

Many toddlers start potty training between ages 2 and 3, often while their parents work long shifts. Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips builds potty training support into toddler classes at our play-based preschool in Orlando. That way, the learning keeps going while you’re at work.

We are a Florida Gold Seal Quality Care day care center, open Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM. On a full workday, much of your toddler’s day happens with us, so home and school need to work as a team. Potty training tends to go best when your child hears the same words and keeps the same routine in both places.

Signs To Watch For

Spotting Potty Training Readiness in Your 2-Year-Old

Potty training readiness shows up in small daily habits, and many Orlando parents of 2-year-olds are not sure what to watch for. Age alone doesn’t decide it. Your child’s body and interest matter more.

Common signs your child may be ready:

  • Stays dry for about 2 hours at a time
  • Notices a wet diaper or tugs at it
  • Shows interest in the toilet or in watching others use it
  • Follows simple directions, like “get your shoes”

Facts You Can Check

Choosing a Potty Training Preschool in Dr. Phillips

Families in Dr. Phillips, Bay Hill and Sand Lake often compare several Orlando day care centers before they pick one for potty training. A good first step is to check credentials, because each one means an outside group has reviewed how the school runs.

Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips holds:

  • Florida Gold Seal Quality Care, awarded by the Florida Department of Children and Families
  • A.P.P.L.E. Accreditation (Accredited Professional Preschool Learning Environment)
  • N.E.C.P.A. Accreditation (National Early Childhood Program Accreditation), which looks at how adults and children interact and how the school works with parents

Director

Our Director, Ms. Yliana Gomez, has more than 15 years of childcare experience. She holds the National Child Development Associate (CDA) credential from the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C., along with the Florida Director Credential.

Credentials matter even more when you’re new to the area. Many families in Dr. Phillips have moved here from the Northeast and the Midwest, and if you’re one of them, you may not have friends nearby to ask for a referral. Gold Seal status, accreditation and Google reviews give you a way to compare schools on facts. When you visit, ask how the toddler teachers handle potty training and listen to how clearly they explain it.

Three Steps, In Order

Preparing Your Child for the First Potty Training Week

The first potty training week goes more smoothly when home and school start on the same day with the same plan. Orlando parents who prepare a few things ahead of time give their child fewer surprises.

Here is the order we suggest:

  1. Agree on words, times and rewards.

Message your child’s teacher about the words you use at home, such as “potty” or “bathroom.” Share the times you try, like after waking up or after meals. Tell the teacher about any rewards, such as stickers.

  2. Ask what to pack.

Most families send spare clothes and extra underwear, plus pull-ups if they use them. Pull-ups are handy, but they can feel like a diaper, and some children notice wetness less in them.

  3. Pick a calm start week.

Choose a week with no big changes, like a move or a new baby sibling. Big changes can pull your child’s attention away from learning.

Hurricane season runs from June to November, and a storm can upset your home routine for days. When things settle, restart with the same words and the same times your child already knows, and let the teacher know so school can match you.

Part of the Routine

Daily Potty Training Support in Our Toddler Classes

Our toddler classes include potty training support for children in full-time or flexible-schedule care in Orlando’s Dr. Phillips area. Bathroom trips are part of the routine, not a break from it.

A toddler’s day already includes:

  • Storytime sessions
  • Creative play centers
  • Outdoor play
  • Snacks and meals

Linking bathroom trips to regular moments, such as after a snack or before going outside, helps children learn the pattern. Over time, a child may start to ask on their own. Praising a child for trying, not only for success, keeps pressure low. A child who feels pressure may start to hold it or refuse to go.

Because we’re open from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, your child’s bathroom routine doesn’t stop when your shift runs long. Many Dr. Phillips parents work theme park and hotel shifts near Universal Studios, which is 2.6 miles from our school. Whether you drop off early or pick up late, your child follows the same pattern, and our caregivers stay with the same age group all day.

No Waiting for Pickup

Tracking Potty Progress With Live Camera Access and App Updates

Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips gives working Orlando parents ways to follow potty training progress during the day. You don’t have to wait until pickup to learn how things went.

Our parent app sends real-time updates. You can also message your child’s teacher directly to ask a question or share that your child had a rough morning at home. Live parent camera access lets you see your child’s classroom and how the day is going.

If something worries you, reach out to our front desk. Parents tell us concerns get addressed the same day. That matters during potty training because small problems are easier to fix early.

Normal Part of Learning

Handling Accidents and Setbacks Without Shame

Potty training accidents are a normal part of learning for families in MetroWest, Williamsburg and the Turkey Lake area. A child who had a great week may have a hard one next. That doesn’t mean the plan failed.

Setbacks often follow a big change. A new sibling, a move or an illness can all cause a child to slip back. In those cases, the child isn’t being difficult. They’re adjusting.

When accidents keep happening, behavioral support can help. Talk with your child’s teacher about next steps. That might mean more frequent bathroom trips for a while, or a pause and a fresh start. Whatever you choose, home and school should make the change together and keep using the same words and routine, because mixed messages slow progress.

Afternoon storms can move the day indoors to spaces like our library or Playtown, our dramatic play room. A bathroom stop before a change of activity can help prevent an accident when the day changes without warning.
