Read Aloud, Join In

What Happens During Story Time Sessions in Orlando Day Care

Story time at our Orlando day care is a teacher reading aloud while children listen and look at pictures. Read-alouds for young children often include simple questions like “What is that?” or “Who is hiding?” that invite children to join in.

New Words Daily

Toddler Story Time in Dr. Phillips Builds New Words Every Day

Toddler story time at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips gives toddlers fresh words to hear and try out. A toddler may point to a dog on the page, hear the word “dog,” and say it back. Short, repeated lines like “Brown bear, brown bear” are easy for small voices to copy. Repeating a line is how many toddlers first join a story.

Toddlers don’t sit still for long, and that’s normal. Read-alouds that are short and full of pictures, pointing, and questions generally help young children stay with the story instead of drifting away.

For working parents in Dr. Phillips and Bay Hill, story time sessions are part of our full-time care, alongside our toddler classes. You don’t need to drive across Orlando to a separate class on your day off. Your child hears stories during the day while you’re at work.

Many local parents work early or late shifts at the theme parks or along the Sand Lake Road Restaurant Row. Our hours of 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, plus flexible scheduling, mean an early start or a late shift doesn’t have to push reading out of your toddler’s routine.

Familiar Voices

Baby Story Time Starts With Familiar Infant Room Teachers

Baby story time in our infant room starts with teachers your baby already knows. We care for infants from 6 weeks old. A young baby won’t follow a plot, but a baby does hear a calm voice, see bright pages, and take in the rhythm of words. Those early sounds help your baby tune in to language long before the first word.

In multiple reviews, parents mention the same infant room teachers by name. That steady staffing means your baby hears stories from familiar faces, not a new person every week. Our teachers stay with the same age group all day, and we keep ratios in place at all times.

Words, Then Phonics

Early Reading for Toddlers Grows Into Kindergarten Readiness

Early reading for toddlers at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips builds the listening and vocabulary skills that later support kindergarten readiness. A toddler who has heard many words in stories has more to draw on when letters and sounds come next.

As children move up, read-alouds lead into our structured Abeka curriculum, and our learning includes phonics and early literacy. Phonics teaches the link between letters and the sounds they make. Story time gives children the words, and phonics later teaches them how to read those words on a page.

Story time also connects to other parts of your child’s learning:

  • Language Learning

Language learning classes, including sign language for infants and toddlers and conversational Spanish from age 2

  • Pre-K Classroom

The Pre-K Classroom, where reading gets more structured

  • VPK Readiness

Kindergarten readiness work in our VPK program

Florida VPK (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten) is free for eligible 4-year-olds. At our school, VPK runs during the school year only. Many families moving to Orlando from other states have never heard of VPK, so we’re glad to explain how it works. We also accept School Readiness (formerly 4C).

Rainy-Day Reading

Indoor Reading Spaces Keep Story Time Going in Orlando Storm Season

Indoor rooms at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips keep story time going when Orlando weather turns. Central Florida summers are hot, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and hurricane season runs from June through November. For families in Williamsburg and the Turkey Lake area, that means plenty of afternoons when outdoor plans have to change.

When storms roll in and outdoor play pauses, our children move inside to the on-site Library, the Playtown dramatic play room, and the art room. The Library gives children a place for books, so a rainy afternoon can turn into extra reading time. Playtown gives children space to act out stories they just heard.

On clear days, children use our water play area and our playground with safety surfacing.

Follow Along

Parents Follow Story Time Through the App and Live Camera

Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips shares your child’s day through a parent app and live classroom cameras. Real-time app updates show what your child did, and direct teacher messaging lets you ask how story time went. You can see the day as it happens, not just hear about it at pickup.

Live parent camera access lets you check in from work. You might catch your toddler pointing at a picture book or your baby listening to a song. Parents also tell us our front desk addresses concerns the same day.
