Patterns, Not Moments

Spotting Early Signs Your Child Needs Behavior Guidance

Tantrums, hitting, or tears at drop-off are often the first signs Orlando parents notice. One hard morning is normal. A pattern is what tells us a child may need more help.

Good behavior guidance looks for patterns tied to developmental milestones. For example, a toddler who bites may not have the words yet to say "mine." A 4-year-old who hits may be struggling with waiting or sharing. The same action can mean different things at different ages, so it helps to look at when it happens, how often, and what came right before it.

Steady teachers make those patterns easier to spot. Our teachers stay with the same age group all day and get to know each child well, so when a child's mood, appetite, or sleep changes, it stands out fast. Parents name specific infant room teachers in their reviews.

Proof You Can Check

Choosing a Positive Behavior Support Daycare in Orlando

Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips gives Bay Hill and Williamsburg parents proof they can check when comparing licensed centers. A positive behavior support daycare should be able to show its standards, not just describe them.

Here's what you can verify:

  • Florida Gold Seal Quality Care, awarded by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF)
  • A.P.P.L.E. Accreditation (Accredited Professional Preschool Learning Environment)
  • N.E.C.P.A. Accreditation (National Early Childhood Program Accreditation)

N.E.C.P.A. reviews adult-child interaction, which is the core of behavior guidance. How a teacher speaks to an upset child, sets limits, and handles conflict shapes how that child learns to behave.

Ms. Yliana Gomez

Director

Our director, Ms. Yliana Gomez, has 15+ years in child care. Ms. Gomez holds the National Child Development Associate (CDA) credential from the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C., as well as the Florida Director Credential.

When you visit, ask how teachers handle a child who hits or melts down. A clear, calm answer tells you a lot about a center.

If you've moved here from out of state, you may not have a neighbor to ask for a referral. These credentials give you a fair way to compare centers on your own.

Before Day One

Getting Your Child Ready for a Calm First Week

A calm first week at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips starts before your child walks in the door. That goes for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers alike.

At enrollment, share the details of your child's day:

  • Daily routines at home
  • Triggers, like hunger or loud noise
  • Comfort items, such as a blanket or small toy
  • Nap habits and how your child falls asleep

These details help teachers prevent a meltdown instead of reacting to one. A child who misses a usual nap time, for example, may have a harder afternoon.

You can message teachers directly in our app during the first days. A quick note about how drop-off or lunch went can ease your mind at work.

We offer flexible scheduling, and we can talk through what that looks like for your family.

Our doors open at 6:30 AM, which fits early hospitality shifts near Universal and International Drive. We're 2.6 miles (about 13 minutes) from Universal Studios. An early opening also means drop-off doesn't have to be rushed, and for many kids, a steady morning means fewer meltdowns.

A Clear Daily Rhythm

Daily Behavior Guidance in Our Dr. Phillips Classrooms

Behavior guidance in our Dr. Phillips classrooms starts with a clear daily rhythm. Children know what comes next: storytime, creative play centers, outdoor play, and meals. Predictable days help young children feel safe, and children who feel safe tend to act out less.

Positive behavior support often relies on a few basics. When a child grabs a toy, the teacher calmly redirects them to another toy or a turn. Teachers name feelings out loud: "You look mad. Your tower fell down." And when a child shares or helps, the teacher names what went right.

A common mistake is giving the most attention to the hardest moments. Children learn fast what gets a reaction. Positive guidance aims attention at kind choices so those happen more often.

When energy runs high, our Art Studio, Science Lab, and Library give children somewhere to put it.

Orlando summers bring afternoon thunderstorms that can pause outdoor play. When that happens, the library, the Playtown dramatic play room, and the art room keep routines steady.

Cameras, App, Messages

Ready for Kindergarten

Building Social-Emotional Skills for Kindergarten in Dr. Phillips

Social-emotional skills built at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips help Orlando families plan ahead for school. Kindergarten asks a lot of a 5-year-old. Children need to sit through a lesson, wait in line, and work in a group.

In our classrooms, children practice:

  • Waiting for a turn
  • Listening to teachers and friends
  • Sharing materials
  • Calming big feelings

These skills support learning in VPK (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten) and our Pre-K Classroom. Our school uses the Abeka curriculum and Saxon Math. A child who can wait and listen is better able to follow a phonics lesson or a counting activity, which is why social-emotional learning and kindergarten readiness grow side by side.

Florida VPK is free for eligible 4-year-olds. At our school, VPK runs during the school year only. If you moved here from another state, VPK may be new to you, and our front desk can answer your questions.

Once kindergarten starts, our before and after school bus serves Palm Lake Elementary and Bay Meadows Elementary. Your child keeps a familiar place after the bell, with homework help and snacks.
