Child Supervision

Child Supervision in Orlando: Safe Before and After School Care in Dr. Phillips

Working parents in Orlando often need a trusted adult watching their kids from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM. Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips provides before and after school care in Orlando for school-age kids. Our program includes homework help. Our bus picks up children from two local elementary schools. As a Gold Seal day care center, we keep your child safe, busy and learning while you’re at work. We have served Dr. Phillips families since 2013. Call our front desk to check whether our bus route and hours fit your family.

Before and After the Bell

After School Supervision Built Around Dr. Phillips Work Hours

Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips sets its hours for parents who work in the hotels, theme parks, restaurants and offices near Sand Lake Road. Many of these jobs start before school opens or end after the final bell. A 3:00 PM pickup doesn’t work for those parents.

Our weekday hours run from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM. Before-school drop-off starts at 6:30 AM, so you can get to an early shift without leaving your child at home alone or at the school gate. We’re closed Saturday and Sunday.

A hospitality schedule rarely stays the same from week to week, so we offer flexible scheduling. Talk with our front desk about the days and times your family needs.

On a tight commute, location matters too. Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips sits 2.6 miles (about 13 minutes) from Universal Studios. We are the closest day care to Universal Studios Orlando. If you work at or near the park, that short drive means fewer minutes in traffic between drop-off and clock-in.

Palm Lake and Bay Meadows

Bus Pickup From Palm Lake and Bay Meadows Elementary

The Ladybird Academy bus serves families zoned for Palm Lake Elementary and Bay Meadows Elementary, both part of Orange County Public Schools. Our before and after school bus runs to these two schools only.

Here’s how the school day connects:

  1. In the morning, you drop your child off with us, and our bus takes them to school.

  2. After the bell, our bus picks them up and brings them straight to supervised care.

  3. Your child goes from a classroom to our staff with no gap and no empty house.

Our bus routes follow the Palm Lake and Bay Meadows bell schedules. If your child attends a different school, our bus won’t reach that campus, so plan another way to get your child to us before you enroll.

Rest, Snack, Plan

Supervised Afternoons With Homework Help and Active Play

Our after school program gives school-age kids in Orlando a clear structure once the bell rings. After a full day of class, most kids need a short rest, a snack and a plan. Without one, the afternoon can turn into hours of screen time.

Homework help is part of our after school program. Our staff can help a child read the directions or work through a stuck math problem. The goal is to get assignments started, so homework doesn’t become a fight at 8:00 PM.

Kids also get active time:

  • Outdoor play and fitness on our playground
  • Soccer
  • Creative play centers for building and art
  • Story time

Kids get a fresh afternoon snack. Our own cook prepares meals and snacks on site, so the food is made in our kitchen. By pickup, we aim for a child who has played, eaten and started on schoolwork, which leaves your evening for dinner and family time.

Proof of Quality

Gold Seal Credentials Stand Behind Every Supervised Hour

Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips holds the credentials that parents new to Orlando can check for themselves. Many Dr. Phillips families moved here from the Northeast or Midwest. With no local friends to ask about child care, they rely on reviews and proof of quality.

Here’s what stands behind our program:

  • Florida Gold Seal Quality Care, awarded by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF)
  • A.P.P.L.E. Accreditation (Accredited Professional Preschool Learning Environment)
  • N.E.C.P.A. Accreditation (National Early Childhood Program Accreditation), valid through April 30, 2027
  • Membership in F.A.C.C.M. (Florida Association of Child Care Management) and N.C.C.A. (National Child Care Association)

N.E.C.P.A. reviews how adults and children interact, along with how a school works with parents and the community.

Gold Seal status has a firm first step. A Florida center must hold a DCF license before the state will consider it for Gold Seal. When you see Gold Seal, you know the license came first.

All of our staff meet or exceed Florida state credential requirements, and all staff are CPR and First Aid certified.

Check In From Work

Live Cameras and App Updates Let You Check In Anytime

Live parent camera access at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips lets you see your child in real time during your workday. You don’t have to wait until pickup to find out how the afternoon went.

  • App Updates

Our app sends real-time updates about your child’s day and lets you message your child’s teacher directly. You can check in from a desk downtown or during a short break on a Restaurant Row shift along Sand Lake Road. A quick look at the camera often settles a worry faster than a phone call.

  • Same-Day Answers

Some questions need a real person. Our front desk answers parent concerns the same day. Every classroom has its own phone, so staff can reach you, or the office, without leaving the children.

  • Open-Door Policy

We keep an open-door policy, too. You can visit anytime during our operating hours, with no notice needed. Cameras show you the room, but a visit shows you how our staff talk with your child.

Heat, Storms and Shade

Indoor and Shaded Spaces Keep Kids Safe in Florida Weather

Child supervision in Orlando runs all year, because Central Florida has no winter break from outdoor heat. The weather shapes how we plan each day.

Central Florida summers are hot, and afternoon thunderstorms roll in often. Hurricane season runs from June through November, so a storm can show up right when kids would normally head outside.

On hot days, our shaded playground equipment and water play area help kids stay cool while they move. Our playground has safety surfacing under the equipment.

Lightning ends outdoor time quickly. When storms arrive, we move kids indoors to our library, Playtown (our dramatic play room) and our art room. These indoor spaces keep the afternoon going on rainy days.

Summer brings our Summer My Way Summer Camp for ages 5 to 11. Each week has a state theme. Mondays are water days, and kids take two field trips per week. One field trip goes to Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake.
